In the heart of Healdsburg, OPHIO Wines—named for the ancient Greek symbol of eternal renewal—crafts estate wines that honor the profound connection between earth and sky.

Our Story

A Wine With The Ancient Spirit

Nestled in the heart of Healdsburg, California, Ophio Wines emerges from a deep connection to both earth and sky. Our name, derived from the ancient Greek “ophis” meaning serpent, symbolizes renewal, wisdom, and the circular nature of life – principles that guide every aspect of our winemaking journey.

As a family-owned estate winery, we believe that exceptional wines begin with an unwavering commitment to the land. Our estate vineyard, planted with classic Bordeaux varietals, is nurtured through biodynamic farming practices that honor the natural rhythms of our environment. Each vine is tended with purpose, each decision made with reverence for the ecosystem we’re privileged to steward.

"In nature's wisdom, we find our path. In the soil's vitality, we discover our future."

Nature’s Influence on Our Wines

The serpent, our namesake, represents the cyclical nature of agriculture and life itself – a perfect symbol for our dedication to biodynamic farming. Just as the serpent sheds its skin in renewal, our vineyards undergo seasonal transformations, each cycle building upon the last to create wines of distinctive character and depth.

The Journey to Our First Vintage

While our first vintage won’t be released until 2027, our story is already being written in the roots taking hold in our estate soil. Today, our young vines grow stronger with each passing season, nourished by sustainable practices and our family’s dedication to crafting wines that truly express the unique character of our Healdsburg terroir.

At OPHIO, we see ourselves not just as winemakers, but as custodians of the land, creating wines that honor both tradition and innovation. Our commitment to biodynamic principles means working in harmony with nature's rhythms, from the phases of the moon to the subtle interactions between soil, plant, and climate.
